Everybody’s free to feel younger

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

Phoenix FM had a royal visit of sorts last week! We welcomed Rozalla, a singer from London who was known in the 90s as the Queen Of Rave.

Rozalla is probably best known for her 1991 hit Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good), which reached the top ten in 1991. The song was heavily sampled in Baz Luhrmann’s number one single Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen) eight years later.

The song was a major dance hit around the world and earned Rozalla a slot opening for Michael Jackson on his 1992 Dangerous tour, appearing with him at 37 shows all over Europe in the summer and autumn of that year.

We were treated to a live performance of her main hit and she chatted with Friday evening House Of Fun host Karin Ridgers about her amazing live on the road meeting stars such as Al Pacino.

Rozalla still has amazing energy and enthusiasm despite constanly performing live since her teens, and of course utterly charmed everyone in the studio too and made us all feel twenty years younger! She’s still performing a lot of high profile shows and will be singing at the recently-announced Cool Britannia festival in Knebworth at the end of August.

The interview and session can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com.

** We’ve got some great guests lined up over the next seven days, including the Dean of Chelmsford, Tom Page, who will be playing his ukulele live!

** We’ve also got Brian Hughes from Rainer Hughes talking about legal matters and Jessica Kemp from the Beeches care home, whose manager has recently won an award for Dementia Manager of the Year.

** We’ll also be hosting live music from Koray, Leo C, Daniel Molyneaux and Adam Nichols.
