Festival partner is a perfect match for us

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We’re delighted to announce that Phoenix FM is now an official media partner of one of the south east’s largest music festivals, Standon Calling.

Getting out and about at music festivals is something that our presenters – and listeners – have always enjoyed. We’ve been at the massive Latitude Festival every year since 2007 and we’ve also organised competitions for and sponsored a stage at the Brentwood Festival in the past.

But Standon is a real step up for us – they’ve always punched above their weight and they have a great mix of music and art genres which fits our own programmes like a glove. We’re always dealing with the publicity people at these events and Jamie and his team from Zeitgeist always bend over backwards to find people for us to chat to, so we always have a fantastic time there.

In the last few years we’ve had access to some big names for interviews including Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, KT Tunstall and Gary Numan. There are more big names taking part this year too, with headliners Bryan Ferry, Paloma Faith and George Ezra joining other well known pop, indie and dance acts including Goldfrapp, The Horrors and Django Django.

Last year I managed to catch our presenters Steve Davis and Kavus Torabi DJing a time when I really should have been in bed and they even had a dog show which another of our presenters, Steve Robertson, entered!

I chatted to festival founder Alex Trenchard on Mike Porter’s breakfast show on Monday morning about what people can expect this year and the interview can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com. There are also links to two-hour specials full of music and interviews which we broadcast after the events in 2016 and 2017.

Standon Calling takes place from 26-29 July in Standon, just a couple of miles outside Bishop’s Stortford, 40 minutes from Brentwood and just inside our new extended FM coverage area! More information can be found at standon-calling.com.

** Allo Allo! star Vicki Michelle is back on air with us for another run of shows. You can hear Vicki every Sunday afternoon at 2pm and she’ll be bringing in some famous names to chat to as well.

** We’ve got some great local guests lined up in the next seven days. Jaz Cook from Billericay Operatic Society will be talking about their new production of The Producers, and Jamie Wadlow and Kiana James will be chatting about their Save The Children fundraiser in North Weald.

There will also be live music in the Phoenix FM studio from Emily Lynn, Dad’s Old Pants, Leo C and Koray.
