Inspiring Hannah is raising funds in memory of sister

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

After saying goodbye to one seasoned radio presenter last week with Keith Rogers’ departure, it’s time to welcome back another one with the return of Charlie Davy to drivetime.

Charlie was one of our original team when we launched the station full time in 2007 – in those days we were broadcasting in a smaller unit at the Baytree Centre. Charlie was one of the developers of our most important piece of software at the station – mAirlist, the one that plays all the music. After leaving Phoenix he went on to help out other Essex community radio stations get going, including Chelmsford Community Radio and Saint FM in Burnham-on-Crouch

Charlie has continued to write software and you can see a selection of this at charliedavy.co.uk. You can hear him every weekday from 3pm to 6pm on 98FM and online.

We also welcomed an amazing young fundraiser into the studio last week.

Just over two years ago Hannah Anderson’s sister, Katie, died after a four year battle with a brain tumour. She had many rounds of chemotherapy which caused her hair to fall out on more than one occasion. The Princess Trust gifted Katie a wig which was styled just for her and Hannah promised Katie that she would shave off my hair and donate it to the Princess Trust.

Katie would be 16 years old on the 22nd January and Hannah felt the need to celebrate her special day in some way – so it’s time the hair came off.

Hannah came in with her mother Dee to talk about her fundraising with breakfast show host Mike Porter. You can hear the interview again at phoenixfm.com and you can visit her fundraising page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/deana-anderson. At the time of writing Hannah’s target had been doubled, so she has already done a fantastic job.

** We’ve got some great guests lined up on air in the next week including Penny Hollington who will be talking about recruitment in Essex, Dr Eric Watts chatting about Tea and Talk at Toby’s and authors Sylvia Kent and Glenys Newton who will be chatting on our monthly Book Club slot with Michelle Ward.

There will also be live music in the studio from Tommy Vegas, Paul Finch and Sonic Cartel. More information on all our features and guests can be found at phoenixfm.com.
