BBC Essex Premier Cup

There were the usual shock results in the 4th Round of the BBC Essex Premier Cup with Old Southendian’s 3-1 victory over Frenford being the pick of them. The hosts may have climbed to the summit of the Premier Division but found their opponents were reading from a different script. Sam Jones, Matt Wilson and Jon Staines scored the Old Southendian goals which cancelled out Luke Woodward’s goal for the hosts. Shenfield AFC also caused an upset as they beat Little Oakley Res. 1-0. Will Marlowe’s extra time goal proved to be the winning goal and the Division One team now go into Wednesday’s Quarter Final draw. Joining them will be Catholic United who needed extra time before running out 5-1 winners over Witham Town Res. A George Saunders brace plus a strike form Chris Neville saw Kelvedon Hatch overcome Hutton 3-0. Buckhurst Hill went on a goal spree at Snaresbrook. The game was effectively won in the first half where Buckhurst Hill went in at the break three goals to the good. They went on to win the game 8-0 with Nathan Sollosi notching a hat-trick, while Jose Espinosa scored twice; the other marksmen were Tyriq Soloman, Sam Sollosi and Keaton Moore. Petrit Elbi scored twice in May & Baker E.C.’s 3-2 win over White Ensign. Conor Okus scored the other May & Baker goal, cancelling out Liam Sewell’s brace for White Ensign in this all-Olympian Premier Division encounter. Springfield faltered for the second week running as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Joe Mayer scored the Springfield goal but strikes from Mark Nougher and Gavin Cockman saw the points going back to Hertfordshire and in the process prevented the defending champions moving to the summit. Frenford therefore remain leaders with a mere three points separating the top six. Leigh Ramblers completed a league double over Rayleigh Town with a 4-1 win that saw Seb Allen score twice with Tom Hollingsworth and Jack Deasy also chipping in. Canning Town added further points to the board after a 2-1 win over Basildon Town. Josh Thompson and Paul Henry scored the goals that move Canning Town closer towards safety. Basildon Town meanwhile remain bottom and are looking in dire trouble as they are now starting to be cut adrift from the rest of the division.

Dan Gage and Jack Sterland both scored twice with Dan Nelson, Taylor Evans and Naveen Arain also putting their names down on the score sheet. Galleywood replied via Robin Reeve and remain in the relegation zone after this result. Adam Hunt scored a brace for Newbury Forest with Bradley Gates providing the assists.  The favour was repaid as Gates scored a brace himself thanks to Hunt setting him up on both occasions. James Driver and Declan Clarke were the Runwell Sports marksmen but they now sit bottom of the table.
