Is this what they call “pandering to populism”?

Pics shows: The coloured ChowChow puppy disguised as a panda cub; A photographer who was being investigated over claims he used endangered animals as photo props to make money has said he uses nothing but an expertly coloured in dog. The snapper, who has not been named, was accused of having a pet panda and offering to take photos of people with the tiny cub for a fee. But it turned out the 'panda cub' was nothing more than a ChowChow puppy dog that he had coloured in. It is still alleged he also has a pet lion cub and a kite bird of prey that he offers up for the pictures, which he takes at the entrance of the village of Monastir located in the city of Sochi in south-western Russia's Krasnodar Krai region. Russian prosecutors have confirmed they are continuing to investigate into the lion and kite claims and will press charges against the person if they have been found to have illegally obtained the wild animals. Eyewitnesses claimed previously that the "tiny panda cub" was no more than 30cm (11 inches) with it being "tortured" by being out and about in 40-degree heat. Anton Lopatin, who works for the local prosecution office, said that as soon as they heard claims that a panda cub was being used for commercial purposes, they initiated an investigation. The panda is a bear native to south central China. In 2016, the IUCN reclassified the species from "endangered" to "vulnerable".

Now yesterday we heard about what could possibly be the world’s worst zoo and today we have news of a man who was charging tourists to take snaps with what he claimed was his panda cub.

Concerned locals had apparently called police after spotting the street trader charging tourists to take snaps with the animal in Monastir, Sochi, Russia.

Faske panda

But officers had a surprise in store for them when they arrived and discovered the pet was not an endangered panda but actually a Chow Chow puppy whose owner had allegedly dyed it black and white to fool people.

Being a Tuesday, Margaret Mills returned today to provide the “low-down” on a reformatory school for boys that operated between 1856 and 1879 out of a farmhouse in Harlow Tye.
