Essex Premier Cup

Springfield crashed out of the Essex Premier Cup after a spirited performance against Little Oakley Res. Joe Mayer and Ryan Batchford scored their goals but they ended up losing 3-2. Sungate however booked their place in the 4th Round after a 4-1 win at Kelvedon Social. Spencer Pitfield (2), Stuart Griffith and Chris Barry were the marksmen.

There was a mixed bag for the two Olympian League teams that were involved in the 2nd round. Catholic United eked out a 1-0 win at Loughton Manor with Mike Dean snaring the all-important goal. Galleywood meanwhile crashed out having held the lead for 70 minutes thanks to a Matt Buckingham strike. They then hit the post, saw their keeper save a penalty before Belstone equalised. The final five minutes saw Belstone score twice more to go on to win the game 3-1.

 

Senior League Cup

Frenford made sure that Benfleet did not add another Premier Division scalp to their collection on Saturday. In the previous round Benfleet had turned over Rayleigh Town but they were swept aside by an Ashley Taylor-Forbes brace, with Luke Woodward also scoring twice alongside a Danny Driscoll strike that won the game 5-0 in Frenford’s favour. Kelvedon Hatch also progresses after a 4-1 win at Ramsden Scotia. Ben Gardner scored twice with George Saunders and Lee Hamill also chipping in. Steve Paoletti scored the Ramsden reply. White Ensign also march on after beating fellow Premier Division outfit Manford Way 3-1.

Bishops Stortford Swifts are up to third after a 4-1 success over Rayleigh Town. Jermain Purchas notched twice with Mark Nougher and Lee Samways the other scorers. Whilst the win lifts Swifts defeat sees Rayleigh second from bottom. Harold Wood Athletic were hoping to keep the pressure on May & Baker E.C.’s lead but dropped points after a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Leigh Ramblers. Tom Hollingsworth and Justin Hazell were the Leigh scorers while Rob Whitnell scored the Harold Wood reply from the penalty spot. Tyron Thomas made sure Canning Town came away from their game at Basildon Town with the full quota of points. The 1-0 defeat keeps Basildon Town at the foot of the Premier Division table.
