Cherish your freedom!

I was joined today by local authoress, FIONA BOWMAN, who’s book “DID I WAKE YOU, PET?” was published just yesterday.

You could be forgiven for being slightly mislead by the title, as the book is actually a particularly harrowing  autography about her life when she was suffering from Domestic Abuse at the hands of her then husband.

Since those years, FIONA has turned her life around to become managing director of Dysart 57 Ltd., as well as Interim Head of Facilities at Saferplaces Domestic Abuse Charity in Hertfordshire and Essex and in her spare time, Fiona is also a keen choral singer, guitarist, painter and traveller.

Listen again here to what Fiona had to tell me today: –

If you, or if you believe, that anyone you know, might be suffering from abuse, get them to call the SAFER PLACES HELPLINE on 03301 025811 – this is a local FREEPHONE number.

Later in the programme, we heard another call for freedom, this time, though, political freedom, and from fairly close to home too – Canvey Island in fact.

Yes lead by the Canvey Island Independence party, the island is trying to wrest back control of it’s own destiny which they lost to Castle Point Borough Council in 1973.

Canvey Is independence

Ironically the Canvey Island Independence party actually holds no less than 15 of the 17 seats on the island itself but they find themselves continually outvoted by the 24 other councillors on Castle Point Borough Council from the mainland.

They were especially upset by the remarks of one councillor who is reported to have described the Island as “a wart on the landscape”, whilst a prominent local businessman, attended a business lunch at which one speaker referred to Canvey as the “biggest open prison in England”, which he felt was a bit rich given that the island is apparently home to more multi millionaires, than anywhere else nearby.

Well there you have it.

See you again soon,
Scott
