Prokit UK Essex Olympian League – Saturday 28th October Round-Up

EOFL2

BBC Essex Premier Cup

The majority of the Prokit UK Essex Olympian League clubs were on BBC Essex Premier Cup duty on Saturday and as usual it served up its usual thrills and spills as holders Harold Wood Athletic finally overcame Olympian Division Two outfit Toby 5-4. Simon Bamidele and Damien Donnelly scored twice apiece for Toby who gave their Premier Division opponents an all-mighty battle. However John Bradley and Chas Liddiard also scored twice with Connor Hartwell also notching to see the holders through.

Reserves teams from Senior clubs also entered the competition and results were a mixed bag. Saffron Walden Town Res. eked out a 1-0 win over Harold Hill. Great Baddow however registered a 7-0 win over Hullbridge Sports Res. Old Chelmsfordians also progress after they beat Heybridge Swifts Res. 4-3 after extra time. Anthony Fox scored twice for Swifts with Dean Merrett scoring the other goal but that wasn’t enough to prevent them being knocked out by the Division One outfit in a shock result. Shenfield AFC finally overcame AFC Hornchurch U21s in a ten-goal thriller. Ollie Dingli’s hat trick plus goals from Ben Absolon, Josh Sumner and Sam Lock ensured it was Shenfield going through after a high scoring 6-4 victory over the young Urchins. A Max Hall hat trick; a brace from Oliver Green and a Shane Holyland strike ensured that Rochford Town went through at the expense of Burnham Ramblers Res. who scored twice via Edison Tereziu but ended up on the wrong end of a 6-2 score line. Sungate also knocked out an Essex Senior League opponent as they entertained Stansted Res. and  sent the Airportmen’s second eleven packing with a 5-1 score line. Tyrell Bull, Alfie Branch and Terrell Hunter hit the target for Takeley Res. but Snaresbrook went one better as strikes from Antoine Fontaine, Boateng Agyemang, Josh Woodcock and Dominic Herbert saw Snaresbrook through with a 4-3 away victory.

Grays Athletic Res. made progress at the expense of Great Wakering Rovers Res. in an all-ESL Reserve Division affair that ended in a 2-0 win for Grays with Rivaldo Nunes scoring both goals. Redbridge Res. also progress after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Arlesford Colne Rangers that saw goals from Jacob Dingli, Ince Ryan and Yusuf Olajide firing the Motormen into the next round.

Kelvedon Hatch scored five without reply against Ongar Town. James Herbert’s hat trick was added to by a double from Mike Daniels. Leigh Ramblers conceded five at White Notley but scored a consolation though Justin Hazell. Matt Connolly knows what that feels like as his goal for Newbury Forest was swamped by the five goals that Coggeshall United replied with. Ryan also went out at the hands of Kelvedon Social who scored five without reply to knock the Olympian Division Two team out.  Five was also a good number for a clutch of Premier Division sides who marched onto the next round thanks to some impressive fire power. Manford Way beat Lawford Lads 5-0 with Reece Tranter’s hat-trick being added to by goals from Damien Yoxall and Julian Edwards; a Luke Woodward hat trick, plus goals from Danny Driscoll and Ashley Taylor-Forbes made sure of a 5-2 Frenford win over Ramsden Scotia. Jamie Auvache and Kurt King scored the Ramsden replies. A fine all-round team performance from Old Southendian saw them overcome Earls Colne 5-1. Stuart Judd scored twice with Elliot Hemmings, Sam Jones and Nick Cardosi also getting on the score sheet. May & Baker E.C. also scored five at local rivals Old Barkabbeyans. Lee Newton scored twice for the Premier Division leaders and was abetted by Tom Harvey, Joe Villiers and Ben Turner. Michael Ryder and Clifford Newby supplied the Old Barkabbeyans replies. Buckhurst Hill also fell after conceding five without reply at Cressing United.

White Ensign brushed past Roydon winning 6-0. Thando Moyo opened the scoring, Luke Skinner then went on to score twice; John Hilliard provided the second goal; Conor Barmby and Rick Stubbs then scored the final two to complete a good afternoon’s target practise. But fellow Premier Division outfit Rayleigh Town are dumped out of the Essex Premier Cup at the hands of Benfleet who also ended their chase for silverware in the Senior League Cup two weekends ago. Benfleet won this latest encounter  4-2 as Rob Lacy opened the scoring in the 40th minute with  second half goals from Ollie Hunter and Ben Foord extending the lead before Lacy closed the account in the 75th minute that eased Benfleet into the next round – Rayleigh meanwhile can now concentrate on league issues having been knocked out of two cup competitions by the Division Two club. Catholic United started their campaign with a 6-1 victory over Basildon Town. Max Kent and Nathan Dewberry notched braces with Mark Baptist and Dan Trenkel providing the other goals.

Upminster from Division Two progress at the expense of Division One Runwell Sports via a 2-1 score line. Warren Taylor supplied both the Upminster goals,  John Smethwick scored the Runwell reply. Shoebury Town from Division Three beat Division One opponents Galleywood in a game that required a penalty shoot-out after normal time and then extra time had ended honours even at 2-2. Shoebury made it a sweet journey home as they went on to win the tie 4-3 on penalties.

Premier Division

Canning Town make a move up the table after a 2-0 win at Bishops Stortford Swifts. The side from East London had made the trip to Hertfordshire at the foot of the Premier Division table,  but returned home sitting in tenth place courtesy of goals from Tom Quinn and Tom Phillips.
