Getting Better All The Time – we chat to Shed Seven

We were delighted to get a chance to chat to Joe and Tom from Shed Seven before their show at Scala in London this week. And also I (sort of) got the chance to be in a record cover!

Shed Seven

The band were originally active between 1994 and 2003, releasing three top 10 albums and 15 top 40 singles. After the band’s split in 2003, the various members went off to different musical projects, but reunited in 2007 to play a series of December dates. Shedcember has now become a regular feature in the musical calendar, with the band meeting up every year to play a bigger and bigger tour – over 50,000 tickets have been sold this year, way more than they used to sell in their 90s heyday!

Earlier this year, the band announced they would be releasing their first studio album for 16 years – Instant Pleasure – in November. Their show at Scala this week was their first date in this year’s tour, and it was a great opportunity to catch the band in a more intimate setting.

Shed Seven - Instant Pleasures

Joe and Tom chatted about how the new album got together, what touring is like and also gave their thoughts on not only the next album after Instant Pleasures, but the one after that!

The show itself lived up to normal high expectations – Shed Seven are a fantastic live act, and the quality of their shows explains why more and more people come back every December. Unusually for a band touring a new album, they mainly kept it to the hits and kept the new songs to a minimum – although you wouldn’t know it, as the two new singles already released – Room In My House and It’s Not Easy – fit seamlessly into the set filled with their 90s classics. The band also played out two more songs never heard before – Nothing To Live Down and Better Days – which went down a storm with the crowd.
