Prokit UK Essex Olympian League

The BBC Essex Premier Cup 2nd Round takes place on Saturday  with holders Harold Wood Athletic starting their defence at Toby. The hosts ply their trade in Division Two but have a habit of knocking out higher division clubs out of cup competitions. However league form would suggest Harold Wood have enough to see them through – they currently sit second in the Premier Division table whereas Toby occupy the bottom rung of the Division Two table.

Catholic United actually won the Final last season but then a player technicality meant them having to give the Cup back. They have reached the final twice in the last three years though so do have good pedigree in this competition. Fellow Premier Division outfit Basildon Town provide the opposition. A look at the Premier Division table would indicate that Catholic United, who sit eighth will beat Basildon Town who sit twelfth. However Cup football doesn’t always follow league form and this is a fifty-fifty match-up.

Manford Way host Lawford Lads from the Essex & Suffolk Border Combination; Kelvedon Hatch who have won this competition four times entertain Ongar Town; while Rayleigh Town, who posted their first league win last Saturday, travel to Benfleet who knocked them out of the Senior League Cup two weekends ago.

Premier Division leaders May & Baker E.C. have an away tie with local rivals Old Barkabbeyans. The hosts operate in Division Four where they currently sit fourth. It would be a great result if they were able to claim the scalp of their Premier Division opponents.
