Billericay Blog: October update

It’s hard to believe we are already in late October but only having played 9 league games, 3 or 4 less than most of the other teams in our league. The season so far has been entertaining plus exciting and up until the last week we were top of the league having won 8 of our matches, scoring 26 goals plus conceding 7. At the end of last season attendances were averaging 500 plus, but in December 2016 we were only having 200 plus, they have now risen to an average of 1315. The last 12 months have been amazing. This Saturday we are back in league action, home to Enfield, it would be great if we could continue to increase the attendance averages.

We have also reached the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup, the last time the club achieved this was the 2007/08 season. The club have never reached the 2nd Round but we have a chance of changing that having been drawn away to Leatherhead FC on the 4th November. To date we have beaten Hungerford FC and Brackley FC teams from the leagues above us. During this cup run the fans have been entertained with 23 goals scored and 7 conceded.

In December 2016 Glenn Tamplin the new owner promised the fans and town a team to be proud of, a team of talented players that would excite plus entertain, community involvement, support for good causes, after his first 10months he’s certainly achieved all that plus a lot more.

He has built the club a new ground, one to be proud of with excellent facilities. The pitch is still looking amazing, is a credit to those who maintain it and hardly looks as though it’s been played on.

Although the FA Cup has provided brilliant entertainment, promotion is still the main target to the National League South. On Saturday 21st October we are home to Enfield FC in the league, come along and see what’s happening at 💙Billericay Town FC💙
