Friday Night Extra 6.10 17 with Isabella & Annabelle talking about a trip to Lesotho, followed by Rob from CHESS.

Rob and Patrick 6.10.17Isabella & Annabelle were part of trip by 17 students from the Anglo European School to Lesotho. This had really opened their eyes to the difficulties of life for many people and changed their own views about the priorities in their own lives. The aim was to help with environmental sustainability, agricultural development and promoting health and safety awareness.  One of the ways they funded the trip, organised by www.africasgift.org was by selling trees to be planted there to help combat soil erosion. £5 buys a stabilising tree, £10 a fruit tree. They took with them gifts, including 20 thermal cooking bags called ‘wonder bags’. A shocking number of childhood deaths are due to smoke inhalation and these bags would help. The trees and the bags can be sponsored via the website. This also has a wide range of other information about how the work can be supported. Both girls wanted to go back at some time in the future.

We featured a first radio play for Sophie Griffiths track, A thousand times. Sophie is aged 15 years and comes from Ingatestone.

In the second hour we were joined by Rob, from CHESS. He gave us an update on the charity. In particular he told us about their autumn fund raiser, Daly dinning. They are looking for 1000 events. You simply organise an event where people eat and then ask them to contribute. He also gave us information about the sleep out in the grounds of Chelmsford Cathedral on November 24th. He said the most powerful part of that experience was getting in the car and driving home for a shower, when of course those who are really homeless cannot. Information about how to support CHESS and also be involved in numerous voluntary capacities are to be found on www.chesshomeless.org
