Essex Senior League – Saturday 7th October Preview

Essex Senior League

The latest round of ESL fixtures starts tomorrow evening when Tower Hamlets entertain West Essex. The hosts had their five game winning streak snapped by Basildon United last Saturday and followed that up with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Ilford at the Mile End Stadium on Monday. West Essex were knocked off the top spot after a midweek defeat at Woodford Town (2017) and will be hoping to return to winning ways but they will find that Tower Hamlets will also be thinking the same thing. With Michael Mignot banging in goals for West Essex;  Curtis Pond and Luke With doing the same for Tower Hamlets means that there could be a few goals in this one.

Great Wakering Rovers now lead the table and will be looking to remain at the top come Saturday evening. They have to travel to a Waltham Forest side that shipped six last time out on Wednesday. Having reached the top it is hard to tip against Rovers who are looking to return to the Bostik North as soon as possible. Waltham Forest do have quality players in their ranks and also need to get something from the game to avoid being dragged towards the bottom end of the table. Neil Richmond will have to be kept quiet if Waltham Forest want to get anything from this game; the Rovers talisman has twelve goals already chalked up in all competitions and having bagged a hat-trick last Saturday will be relishing the chance to add a few more if Forest fail to keep a tight defence.

Another club looking to return to their former Bostik League glories is Redbridge who currently sit in second place. The Motormen have made it six win out of six, their best bit of form for nine years. Along the way they have also been scoring goals with Brian Moses and Calvin Poku scoring regularly. Redbridge now  have to take to the road with Southend Manor standing in their way of making it a striahgt seven. The hosts lie in fifteenth but have picked up some good wins and will provide the Motormen a stern test.

Stansted lost 4-0 in midweek at home to Southend Manor and next up is a home engagement with Basildon United. The Bees are third, with goal difference separating the top three so a win could put them top if other results go their way.  If they bring Marcus Bowers with them then the Airportmen’s backline could be in for a tough afternoon.
