Essex Senior League
West Essex took a heavy midweek defeat in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy but return to league duty against Enfield 1893 hoping to pick themselves up and pick up the full quota of points to keep them top of the Essex Senior League.
Sporting Bengal United sit second on goal difference and will be looking to pick up their fourth win on the bounce against Woodford Town (2017). Meanwhile fourth play fifth as Basildon United take on Tower Hamlets. The visitors have been scoring in abundance recently, scoring ten last weekend in the FA Vase and then six the week before that. Curtis Pond could hurt the Basildon defence but the Hamlets backline will have to keep on eye on Marcus Bowers as he has also chalked goals this term. There could be goals in this match-up.
Takeley have chalked up six wins out from their opening six fixtures which briefly gave them the leadership. Now down to third they will be hoping to pick up a win over mid table Clapton.
With all the top sides hoping to get closer to the summit a thought has to be spared for Wadham Lodge who sit at the foot of the table. However they could end the weekend off it if they can beat Burnham Ramblers. It’s a game the hosts have to win having only won once so far this term – plus they need to get the 8-0 mauling they suffered at Stansted last weekend out of their system as quickly as possible. Burnham themselves come into the game only a point off the bottom having only posted four points from their opening nine games. Defeat for either side will see them holding up the rest of the table come Saturday evening.
