I had the honour today to be deputising for the one and only MICHELLE WARD.
She is such a big personality that it takes 6 of us to replace her during her fortnight’s holiday!
On today’s show I was joined by the Chairman of the Diabetes UK Brentwood Group, MALCOLM BIGG along with ROBIN MAILLARD, who together with a number of organisations including Age Concern, Self-Management UK, Cancer Support, St Francis Hospice OrangeLine and Weight Watchers UK, are holding a Health Awareness and Education Day this coming Saturday between 10am and 3pm at the Baytree Centre and Chapel Ruins in Brentwood High Street.
Visitors will have the option of being tested by healthcare professionals, get their blood pressure checked, and a dietician will be on hand to offer advice and tips on healthy food choices.
There will be lots of advice and support for people already living with either Type1 or Type 2 diabetes.
In addition to the event this Saturday there will be a FREE all day event taking place on Friday 29th September at Basildon Sporting Village, Gloucester Park North, Cranes Farm Road, Basildon SS14 3GR. This is an educational event aimed at helping people to learn how to maintain a healthy diet and to manage diabetes on a day-to-day basis.
The event runs from 9:30am to 4pm but note places are limited so you need to pre-book by calling 01268 594350 or going to https://eventbrite.co.uk/e/basildon-living-with-diabetes-day-tickets-36712778910. The e-mail address is bbccg.contact@nhs.net.

On a lighter note – well at least for us we reviewed a number of Darwin Awards.
Now just in case you don’t know, DARWIN AWARDS are given posthumously to those unfortunates who have met their end through misadventure resulting from their own crass stupidity!
The heroes we looked at today included the petty criminal who stage managed his exit by setting fire to the padded cell in which he had been temporarily incarcerated.
Our second award winner concerned a gullible acolyte who volunteered to be killed and resurrected by a holy man–and not a holy man who was experienced with the procedure, but a beginner who thought he’d give it a whirl!
Unsurprisingly the ceremony performed was not the glittering success that had been billed so not only did the volunteer throw off his mortal coil, but his would-be saviour, was charged with murder.
Oops!
See you again soon,
Scott
