Saturday 2nd September Round-Up

You will have to go back to the 2008/09 season to see when Basildon United last had a six out of six winning start. The Bees maintained their current good form by beating Great Wakering Rovers 2-1. It was a game that either side needed to win if they wanted to take over at the top of the table. Goals from Danny Dafter and a late winner from Ash Blackburn means that Basildon United now lead the table. Billy Johnson supplied the Great Wakering goal.

Barkingside unleashed their guns at Hullbridge Sports on Saturday as they fired six past their hosts, who scored twice themselves via Jimmy Cox and a Luca Frankis penalty. Side scored their opening two goals in the first ten minutes as Jason Fontaine opened the scoring in the 2nd minute before Michael Ogboin doubled the lead five minutes later. Cox pulled one back in the 28th minute before Fontaine added his second three minutes later. Second half goals from Mattheus Santos, Michael Sherwood and Tony Cookey cemented the win that moves Barkingside up to seventh.

Ilford are sixth after they recorded a 2-0 home win over Stansted. Chris Lockwood and Aaron Wickham were the marksmen. Sawbridgeworth Town won by the same score line against Waltham Forest with Joe Wright and Aaron Wickham notching a goal apiece.

West Essex beat Burnham Ramblers 2-0 thanks to goals from Michael Mignot and Cameron Gray. Burnham Ramblers now foot the table, while West Essex are up to fourth.

Andrea Mantovani fired Woodford Town (2017) into a first minute lead against Redbridge; the Motormen however were back on level terms in the 3rd minute courtesy of Jacob Dingli. Brian Moses then scored the winning goal for the visitors just before the hour mark.

Tower Hamlets picked up their first win of the season as they met Sporting Bengal United at the Mile End Stadium. It was Sporting Bengal who took the lead, with Anthony Murray Bruce hitting the target in the 15th minute. Frankie Sinclair equalised just before the break and then Kane Wilson put Tower Hamlets in the lead in the 55th minute. Freddy Tendon then equalised for Sporting Bengal before Curtis Pond scored a late winner to win it for Tower Hamlets.

Wadham Lodge also registered their first win of the season after goals from Jayden Hocking-Rising and a late winner from Kirk McPhearson helped them to overcome Enfield 1893. The hosts did see their visitors pull one back in the 70th minute as Danny Jones scored a penalty, but held on to pick up a welcome win that also moves them off the foot of the table.
