The Prokit UK Essex Olympian League gets underway on Saturday with the Senior Challenge Cup between Springfield and Basildon Town kicking the season off. Springfield won last season’s Premier Division title, Basildon Town won last season’s Senior League Cup, completing the double by also winning Division One. Both teams will be hoping to start the new campaign by lifting the showcase Final.
There are also five games in the Premier Division with the pick of the bunch being Kelvedon Hatch v Frenford. Both teams are traditionally up in the higher echelons of the table and this opening day encounter could go on to have some bearing on the table later on in the season
Catholic United start their Premier Division campaign with a local derby against Leigh Ramblers. The hosts have had a meteoric rise through the Olympian League, achieving three successive promotions that has seen them move up from Division Three to the Premier Division in three seasons. Leigh Ramblers finished ninth last season and should provide a tough test.
