Dave Ryan reports…

As his side prepare to face Team USA Select in a pair of friendlies next weekend, Levett Essex Leopards’ coach Thomas Baker is ready for the challenge.

The Big Cats host the touring American side at Oaklands College on Friday September 1 (7.30pm) before the teams meet at the Brentwood Centre on Sunday September 3 (4.00pm). Tickets are available through the club website or on the door, and there are a few places left on the pre-game camp which can be booked through www.leopardsbasketball.co.uk.

“As the season nears, I am looking forward to starting to see the guys in action, as we start to formalise the roster it is going to be great to see these players pull on the Leopards’ uniform as we edge nearer to our games against Team USA” said Baker.

“It’s been a good summer so far for us – 30 players past, present and new have tried out for the team, it just goes to show how strong the Leopards brand is.

“Recruitment has been good, and there is a great feeling amongst the players currently. They are all itching to get on the floor and show the fans that we deserve to be back in Division One, and the games against Team USA are where we can show them just what this season holds for us”.

Team USA Select is a side made of players who have finished their college careers in the States and are looking for pro jobs in Europe. Several have gone on to successful careers in England including former Leopards’ big man Greg Hernandez who helped the Big Cats win the National Trophy in 2013.
