Our album of the week was Brutalism from the excellent IDLES.
The Bristol band’s debut came out in March so I am a bit behind the times with this one, but it’s been steadily on rotation at home for some time, even though I can’t play half the songs on the radio without trying to cut the naughty words out. The excellent video for Mother first caught my attention and I was hooked after seeing them live at Latitude. Another excellent performance at Standon Calling led me to believe this wasn’t the last time I’d seeing them – while the songs convey genuine anger and emotion there’s also a lot of humour in their performance. Angry humour. Go check them out now before they get bigger and you have to watch them live behind 100 rows of heads.
On tonight’s show we also played out the full session recorded for us by the wonderful Taffy at Studio 6 Music in Witham.
