Album of the week: Radiohead – OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017

OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017

I wasn’t sure if it was a cheat to have a reissue as my album of the week, especially one with such a ridiculously unweildly name. But OKC remains one of my favourite albums of all time, and the addition of previously unreleased tracks – all of which are fantastic – plus a number of B sides which I have scattered on various CD1s and CD2s (remember those?) in boxes all over my loft meant that this was definitely worth our coveted accolade.

Also amazing: the cover art has only recently been identified by user wgboyd from Reddit.

It’s the eastbound junction of I-84 (the “Yankee Expressway”) with I-91 in Hartford, Connecticut, just before it crosses the Connecticut River. wgboyd works in the Hilton Hotel overlooking the junction and took the photo above from the 22nd floor which matches the cover perfectly. It’s very likely too that the photo was taken on 20 August 1996 as Radiohead supported Alanis Morissette at the Meadows Music Theater in Hartford that night.

Tonight’s playlist:

Late Of The Pier – Heartbeat
Radiohead – Lift
Royal Blood – Look Like You Know
Salad – Kiss My Love
National – The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness
Popguns – We Don’t Go Round There Anymore
Arcade Fire – Everything Now
Declan McKenna – Isombard
Radiohead – Man Of War
Mammút – The Moon Will Never Turn On Me
Desperate Journalist – Why Are You So Boring
Sleeper – Statuesque
My Life Story – Girl A, Girl B, Boy C
Coldplay – All I Can Think About Is You
Songhoy Blues – Bamako
Oblong – Sganwyr
Bjork – Bachelorette
Radiohead – I Promise
