The Gruffalo offers Relaxed Performance at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch

There’s fun to be had by ALL families this summer as everyone’s favourite furry monster roars onto the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch stage from 9 – 12 August, including a Relaxed Performance on Thursday 10 August at 11am.

The Gruffalo

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep dark wood in search of a nut, meeting the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake on the way. Will the story of the Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these crafty woodland creatures? Armed with only a nut map and a little courage, Mouse must outwit them all. After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there?

A specially adapted Relaxed Performance of The Gruffalo will provide a comfortable setting for audience members who might find it difficult to follow the usual conventions of theatre etiquette. By creating an informal environment it will enable patrons to just be themselves without the need for families or carers to worry about the effect it may have on others around them. Families can feel assured that audience noise is permitted throughout the performance and individuals who may feel overwhelmed by the experience are free to leave to a ‘chill out’ area in the foyer and return when they feel ready at any point during the show.

The Relaxed Performance welcomes people of all ages who will benefit from a relaxed, quieter and supportive environment including people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders or learning disabilities.

A Visual Story will be available prior to attending the Relaxed Performance which contains information and pictures about the performance, storyline, characters and the venue so families can prepare for their theatre experience in advance. To receive a copy of the Visual Story in the post, bookings for the Relaxed Performance must be made before Thursday 27 July.

Tall Stories’ The Gruffalo is based on the much loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The most fearsome creature that never was – but is – takes to the stage in this enchanting production combining songs, laughter and storytelling theatre with just the right amount of scary fun! Set to a wonderfully catchy score with original music and lyrics, The Gruffalo is a must-see show which continues to entertain audiences the world over.

The Gruffalo will be performed at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch at the following times:

Wed 9 Aug | 2pm | 4.30pm

Thu 10 Aug | 11am (Relaxed Performance) | 2pm

Fri 11 Aug | 11am | 2pm

Sat 12 Aug | 11am | 2pm

Tickets are £12.50 (£10 for groups of 10+) and can be purchased by calling the Box Office on 01708 443333, in person at the theatre or online at queens-theatre.co.uk. Bookings for the Relaxed Performance can only be made by calling the Box Office, please discuss any specific requirements before booking.
