Thousand Yard Stare continue the wave of “90s bands” who’ve reformed, found their old audience, made some new fans and continue to pump out new music and fantastic live sets. This month saw the release of two EPs – DeepDreaming and Stargrazing, out on their own Stifled Aardvark label.
Thousand Yard Stare were always an “EPs band” – they released 11 between 1989 and 1993, in which time they were signed to Polydor and produced two seriously good studio albums, Hands On (which troubled the top 40 in 1992) and Mappamundi. I caught them live a few times during that period, once supported by The Jennifers (just before they became Supergrass) and also at the fantastic 90s version of the Marquee, which is sadly now a Wetherspoons pub. I also caught their comeback show at the Borderline two years ago and a couple of gigs and all-dayer appearances since, and they’re sounding better than ever, as these new tracks attest.
Eight songs? 33 minutes? All on one disc? Sounds like an album to me … You can buy it from their official website here.
