Billericay Blog: season nearly over

The season is nearly over, just 1 game remaining away at Needham Market, the team won they last home game of the season, beating Canvey 3-1 in front of a record league crowd of 1970. They will finish the season just outside the playoff places which was disappointing, although they did win the Ryman League Cup for the first time.

Glenn Tamplin has indicated that a number of changes will be made to squad, players are being released and several new players have been identified from the National Conference League but they have not been named. Although there were several good results in the second half of the season, there were also a number of poor ones, this was a particular point of concern, the team’s lack of consistency. Glenn has stated he wants to win the league next season and that’s why he has decided to change the squad.

He has also stated that players will train 3 times a week instead of 2 and during the pre season period they will be training 4 times a week. Glenn stated he expected players to show passion and desire every game, he wasn’t prepared to accept anything less than that. Some friendlies have been arranged against West Ham, Southend and hopefully QPR. Details will be announced in the summer.

A new 4G top of the range (£700k) pitch will be replacing the current grass one and a 4G pitch will also be used as the training pitch. Three new stands will be built during the summer, behind both goals and along one side, the club are awaiting planning permission to the build along the clubhouse side. New floodlights will be erected also during the summer.

Attendances increased during the last few matches, the last 4 home matches all being over 1200+, average attendances increased from less than 300 in December to 565 at the end of the season.

There is a lot to look forward to for season 2017/18, the owner has done everything he said he would plus a lot more in just 5 months. Having achieved the record attendance of 1970 against Canvey it is hoped the team will start the new season with similar support.
