Friday Night Extra 7.4.17 with Pastor Lee Carmichael talking about a trip to South Africa

2000px-Flag_of_South_Africa_SADCWebsitePastor Lee Carmichael from Ingatestone Elim was my studio guest. He had been recently to South Africa to spend a week with Robin and Julie Fenner. They are missionaries supported by the church, and were guests on this show. Lee talked about the work that was being undertaken with children, many from the local township. He told of an event where the children were very pleased to be given peanut butter sandwiches and balloons.. He talked about attending very enthusiastic and lengthy worship. Lee went to work with local leaders, particularly on issues related to safeguarding and making environments safe for children. He was also involved in preaching at some missionary events. A day was spent on safari, which included an encounter with a large group of elephants that were crossing the road. Lee’s vehicle simply had to wait. More information about the work happening in South Africa can be accessed via the Ingatestone Elim church website.

Music in the first hour tonight had an African theme. We had a number of requests this evening. Rock with Elvis was another new track from Lisa Harman. The Rolling Stones track was played in memory of Roger, landlord for many years at The Star in Ingatestone and a real eccentric and village character.

Tonight’s playlist.

Booker T & MGs – Crazy

Toto – Africa

Ladysmith Black Mumbazo – The lion sleeps tonight – chosen by Lee

Lion King – Hakuna Matata – chosen by Lee

Scott Laverley – Shine – Scott is playing live at the Ingatestone Elim on Saturday 8th of April.

Ed Sheeran – Perfect – requested by Patrick

Rolling Stones – Waiting for a friend – in memory of Roger

Lisa Harman – Rock with Elvis

Blood, Sweat & Tears – And when I die

Mike Oldfield – Moonlight shadow – who knew this track had been No 1 in twelve counties in 1983?

Stevie Wonder – Lately – a forgotten classic from his back catalogue

George Martin – Theme 1.

Join me next week for a Good Friday special, with my guest Chris Boyland from Brentwood Churches Together.
