Football: Local Sides Round-up (Through the Divisions) – February 4th 2017

Scott W reports with a round-up of all of today’s results (Feb 4th ‘17) from the local sides we look out for on Phoenix Sport, from West Ham Utd all the way to Bowers & Pitsea & Brentwood Town.

Southampton  1 – 3  West Ham Utd      (Premier League)

Slaven Bilic’s men gained another good away win, this time at St Mary’s. The Saints took the lead through new signing Manolo Gabbiadini early on. The Hammers hot-shot Andy Carroll levelled just minutes later. Pedro Obiang gave West Ham the lead two minutes before the break. Shortly after the interval, An OG from Steven Davis sealed the win for the visitors. The Saints have lost six of their last seven league matches now, residing in 13th spot. As for West Ham, they rise to 9th place.

Ipswich Town  2 – 2   Reading       (EFL Championship)

Ipswich twice took the lead as they were held at Portman Road by Jaap Stam’s high-flying Reading. Tom Lawrence got both goals for Town either side of the break, whilst second-half goals from new loan signing Jordan Mutch and Jordan Obita grabbed a point for the Royals. The Tractor Boys rise to 16th place, whilst Reading stay 3rd, four points away from the top two.

The Blues continued their good home form, defeating promotion-chasing Scunthorpe at Roots Hall. Murray Wallace opened the scoring for the Iron early on, though Marc-Antoine Fortune levelled before half-time for the Blues. Phil Brown’s side then sealed the points late on through goals from Simon Cox and Ryan Leonard. Scunthorpe’s day was compounded as Neal Bishop was sent off late on. The Shrimpers rise to the play-off spots in 6th, whilst Scunthorpe fall to 2nd spot, behind new leaders Sheffield Utd by two points.

Blackpool   1 – 1     Colchester Utd    (League Two)

The in-form U’s picked up a useful point at Bloomfield Road. The Seasiders took the lead early-doors through Jamille Matt. A matter of minutes later, Kurtis Guthrie levelled for John McGreal’s men and grabbed a point. The visitors finished the match with ten men as substitute Sean Murray saw red late on. Blackpool stay in 14th place, eight points off the play-off spots. Colchester rise to 9th spot, four points off the top seven.

Leyton Orient  1 – 2   Carlisle Utd    (League Two)

The Cumbrians came from behind to defeat the O’s at Brisbane Road, in new manager Danny Webb’s first match in charge. It started well for the home side as Gavin Massey gave them the lead mid-way through the first period. Only ten minutes later though, Carlisle levelled courtesy of a Gary Liddle goal. New loan signing Jamie Proctor grabbed all three points with his goal mid-way through the second-half. Orient now haven’t won in six league matches and stay 23rd, a point from safety. Carlisle stay 3rd , after their first win in six league matches.

Dag & Red    3 – 2   Chester   (National League Premier)

Dagenham won a real see-saw encounter at Victoria Road. Jake Sheppard gave the Daggers the lead just before half-time. Though after the break, Chester hit two quick-fire goals through Luke George and Tom Shaw to lead 2-1. A pivotal moment in the match came five minutes from time though as Johnny Hunt saw red for hand-ball on the goal-line. Corey Whitely scored the resulting spot-kick to level the match. And with moments left, substitute Jordan Maguire-Drew grabbed all three points for promotion-chasing Dagenham. John Still’s men have now won their last four league matches and rise to 2nd place, three points off leaders Lincoln, who have a game in hand. Chester fall to 12th place.

Braintree Town  0 – 0  Dulwich Hamlet  (FA Trophy 3rd Round)

A crowd of more than 600 saw this stalemate at Cressing Road. The Iron were not at their best, so Hakan Heyrettin’s men will have to travel to Dulwich for a replay though they stay in the hat for the FA Trophy Quarter-Finals.

Tranmere Rovers 1  – 1  Chelmsford City  (FA Trophy 3rd Round)

The Clarets held their more illustrious opponents at Prenton Park. Robbie Wilmott opened the scoring for the visitors on the half-hour. Tranmere levelled twenty minutes from time through Cole Stockton’s goal. The Super White Army will travel to Melbourne Park to settle this tie in a replay.

East Thurrock Utd  2 – 3  Hemel Hempstead Town   (National League South)

The Rocks were edged out late on by fellow mid-table side Hemel at Rookery Hill. Jake Robinson gave the visitors an early lead, before Michael Clark equalised mid-way into the second period. Just minutes later, Tom Wraight put East Thurrock ahead, before late goals from Charlie Sheringham and Jordan Parkes grabbed all three points for the Tudors. East Thurrock fall to 11th spot, whilst Hemel Hempstead rise above today’s opponents into 10th place.

Ebbsfleet Utd    4 – 0  Concord Rangers      (National League South)

Fleet comfortably swept aside lowly Concord at Stonebridge Road. Kenny Clark put Daryl McMahon’s side ahead early-on. Bradley Bubb doubled the lead just before the break. Ex-Dagenham youngster Sean Shields made it three just past the hour, before Bubb grabbed his second five minutes from time. Fleet have now won five league matches on-the-trot and stay 2nd, three points behind leaders Maidenhead. Concord stay 18th, four points ahead of the bottom three.

Havant & Waterlooville  1 – 2   Billericay Town   (Ryman Premier Division)

Billericay picked up a big win at West Leigh Park. Just before the half-time whistle sounded, Christian Assombalonga put the Blues ahead. Lewis Taafe doubled the lead twenty minutes from time, before Jason Prior reduced the Hawks’ arrears. Havant stay 3rd, though are now five points behind leaders Bognor Regis. Craig Edwards’ men rise to 12th spot.

Brentwood Town did not play today (Ryman Division North)

Norwich Utd   1 – 1   Great Wakering Rovers   (Ryman Division North)

Keith Wilson’s Wakering picked up a creditable point on-the-road at Plantation Park. Jamie Guy put the visitors ahead just past the hour, though ten minutes later, Liam Jackson equalised for in-form Norwich Utd. The Planters rise to 9th place, six points off the play-offs. Rovers stay bottom, ten points from safety.

Bowers & Pitsea  P-P   VCD Athletic    (Ryman Division North)

This match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Jamie Guy put the visitors ahead just past the hour, though ten minutes later, Liam Jackson equalised for in-form Norwich Utd. The Planters rise to 9th place, six points off the play-offs. Rovers stay bottom, ten points from safety.
