Back in the summer we took a look at the most successful number 1’s over the past 6 years. But as it is coming towards the end of 2016, tonight’s playlist reminisced the tracks which hit the top of the charts this year.

Kicking off the year as the first number 1 in January, Love Yourself stayed there for three weeks.

Stitches – Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes’ first number 1 song graced the charts at the end of January for 2 weeks.

Pillow Talk – Zayn
Zayn’s debut single as a solo artist after leaving One Direction got to number one but only stayed there for 1 week.

7 Years – Lukas Graham
7 Years makes it as joint 2nd in the most longest lasting number 1 single for 2016, holding on for 5 weeks.

I Took A Pill In Ibiza – Mike Posner
Mike Posner’s comeback track beat his two previous singles to be his first number 1 and was there for 4 weeks.

One Dance – Drake ft Wizkid & Kyla
Not only did this track serve as the longest lasting number 1 of 2016, being there for 15 weeks, but it is also the longest-lasting number 1 of the century!

Cold Water – Major Lazor ft Justin Bieber & MO
This popular collaboration joins Lukas Graham in being joint 2nd most longest lasting song of 2016 as it was also number 1 for 5 weeks.

Closer – The Chainsmokers ft Halsey
Being the debut number 1 for The Chainsmokers, Closer features the vocals of Halsey and stayed at the top spot for 4 weeks back in September.

Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur
After having a few troubles in his life James Arthur returned to the music industry with Say You Won’t Let Go which got to number 1 3 weeks in a row.

Shout Out To My Ex – Little Mix
The lead single from their also number 1 album Glory Days, Shout Out To My Ex kept the X Factor baton going from James Arthur and matched his efforts staying at number 1 for 3 weeks.

Rockabye – Clean Bandit
Bringing us up to the present day, Clean Bandit have been number 1 for 3 weeks so far, how long can they stay there for until they are knocked off?
