Unused medicines – do you throw in the bin? STOP!

Do you throw your unused medicine in the bin or down the loo? STOP! Medical Waste costs the Basildon and Thurrock areas every year, £2.5 million worth of medication is returned to pharmacies unused.

This could pay for 3,125 cataract operations, 395 hip replacements or 100 community nurses

I talked to Head of Medicines Optimisation, Denise Rabette from NHS Basildon and Brentwood CCG who explains more.

INTERVIEW

Please take all unused medicines back to the Pharmacy to be destroyed. You don’t have to make a special trip, just bag up any tablets, creams etc and take them back to the pharmacy next time you visit. Its so easy. Even medicines that are not on prescription and you have purchased over the counter.
