Friday Night Extra 26.2.16 The Rugby Soundtrack

I was joined in the studio tonight by Jonty. A number of listeners e-mailed in tonight to say that they were watching the rugby and listening to us. This was clearly a wise choice. With no guests tonight, we concentrated on the music and put in a few odd news stories from across the week. Keeping Up Appearances is the most often bought show of the last forty years by other TV networks, according to BBC Worldwide. It has been purchased a staggering 922 times, including recently in Nigeria, Latvia and Bulgaria. Do they think we are all like Hyacinth Bucket? There was also a rumour from Dawn French of a new series of the Vicar of Dibley with Geraldine Grainger now as a Bishop. We thought that was a great idea. A 78rpm copy of the Beatles ‘Till there was you’, with writing on it by Brian Epstein, is up for auction this week with an estimate of £10,000. We played a version tonight for free! There was an extra-ordinary story from Cambodia about the visit of a princess from Thailand to a rural area. She had requested a toilet be made available and one was build for $40,000 in an area where most of the population do not have access to basic sanitation. The toilet was built, but all she did was take a photo of it. The toilet was then removed! I imagine this was not too popular with the locals.
