Ryman League North: Thamesmead Town 1 Brentwood Town 2

Brentwood Town held on to take all three points and get back to winning ways with a slender 2-1 victory over Thamesmead Town.

Sam Bantick struck twice in the first half to seal the three points for ‘The Blues’. Early in the second half Robert Carter got Thamesmead back into the game but was not enough for the home side.

Brentwood took an early lead only two minutes in, after a lovely worked one-two with Bantick and Tom Richardson who laid it back to Bantick, to slot it inside the near post.

Thamesmead managed to work themselves into the game and a dangerous free-kick was fizzed just over the bar by the home sides top goal scorer Tyrus Gordon-Young.

Emmanuel Osei was played in down the left flankfor the visitors, burst into the box and his shot was saved by Rob Budd in the Thamesmead goal.

Brentwood doubled their lead just before the half hour mark, as Osei down the left found Bantick who let the ball roll across his body and hit a snap shot into the top corner.

Thamesmead responded straight from the restart as a shot across goal by the hosts was parried only to Chris Manangu to tap it in. The linesman raised his flag, to deny Thamesmead an immediate reply.

‘The Blues’ almost got a third as the ball was worked out to the right. Marcus Milner put a great low ball across goal and Bantick on the cusp of his hat-trick could not get on the end of it.

Thamesmead came out firing and were rewarded five minutes into the second half, as an unnecessary free-kick was whipped in by Ashley Probets onto the head of Robert Carter.

Brentwood nearly wrapped the three points up as Bantick’s solo run was picked up by Richardson and his shot beat the keeper but was cleared by George Benner.

The away side managed to hold on despite the final onslaught from Thamesmead, Brentwood take all three points to stay in the hunt to secure a play-off place.
