Billericay Town 5 -0 Enfield Town
Billericay picked up their second win in three days with a demolition of the away side, leapfrogging them in the process.
Back by a vocal away support, Enfield dominated the early exchanges, getting a lot of joy from pumping the ball into the box through long balls and set pieces. After nine minutes a rare Billericay breakaway brought a chance for Rowan Liburd but he skewed his shot wide. However, he made up for the miss two minutes later. Winning the ball around the halfway line, Liburd made a beeline for the box and calmly slotted the ball past Nathan McDonald in the Enfield goal.
Enfield continued to enjoy the majority of possession, Nathan Livings shooting over when well placed after another ball into the box caused havoc. Jon Constant capitalised on poor Billericay defending, but didn’t force a save out of Billy Lumley, and Enfield were made to pay soon after as Glenn Poole, making his 150th appearance for Billericay, was fouled on the edge of the Enfield box, dusting himself off to score a cracking free kick.
Enfield still pushed for a goal, Alex Teniola had a shot cleared off the line after a mix up between Lumley and Halle resulted in an opening, before Corey Whitely cut in from the left and curled narrowly over the bar.
Tempers flared at the end of the half as Teniola went in hard on Halle and Nesbit, Constant also going down in the box, but the referee called a halt to proceedings before things overheated.
The second half belonged to Billericay. After 55 minutes, new boy Ryan Melaugh drilled a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net. That is not to say that Enfield didn’t have chances though, Teniola putting another opportunity wide.
But Billericay were four up after 68 minutes. Nathan McDonald made a hash of gathering a bouncing ball, allowing Ricky Sappleton to slot past the defenders on the line.
From there on, Billericay were in cruise control, Harry Baker mishitting a shot after a lovely flowing Billericay move. The only sour note came on 81 minutes as a mistimed Enfield challenge caused a mass melee, bringing yellows for Corey Whitely and Michael Kalu.
The moment of the game came in the 87th minute, as Ricky Sappleton weaved his way through the visiting defence, slotting past the keeper for his second and Billericay’s 5th.
Billericay move up to 8th and face AFC Hornchurch in the league at New Lodge on Boxing Day.
Attendance: 265
