Rev. Ruth Mitchell, the new United Reformed Church minister for Brentwood, Billericay and Ingatestone was the studio guest this evening. Ruth has been with the people in these churches just over six weeks. She told us about how she came to be undertaking this post, about her call to the ministry, about her wider interests and her hopes for the time with the three communities. She stated that her main priority was to enable people to speak with more confidence about their own faith journeys. Ruth also chose three tracks from the station library. We had a number of news stories, including one about a woman in a small village in Oxfordshire who has hired the local pub to provide Christmas dinner for fifty people who would all otherwise be on their own. We also heard about a competition by Friday Night Extra favourite Jamie Cullum setting a competition to win his grand piano. It was won by a school in Wiltshire that will place it in the sixth form common room.
