Brentwood Town came from a 2-0 deficit as they won 4-2 away to Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road Stadium in The Robert Dyas League Cup first round.
Heybridge scored two early goals through Charlie Gregory and Alex Andrews but Yeshaya Lomotey got one back on the cusp of the break.
Brentwood equalised through Shad Ngandu and gained the lead through Christian Mbulu with Robbie Rees who put the away side into the next round to face local rivals Billericay Town.
Both sides made numerous changes as expected with three first starts for James Pellin, Sid Markaj and Tom Oliver.
The home side gained an early lead five minutes in as Charlie Gregory on the counter-attack cut inside and smashed a low shot which flew underneath James Pellin.
Heybridge scored a second two minutes later as the ball swept across goal by Gregory to Alex Andrews to fire it in from close range to double their lead.
The hosts almost put the game to bed 23 minutes in as Joe Pearman was put through one on one with Pellin but was blocked by his feet to deny Heybridge a third.
Just after the hour mark Brentwood had their first glimmer on goal as Shad Ngandu turned and smashed a shot from 25 yards which stung the hands of Danny Kirkham for a corner.
Yeshaya Lomotey had another snap shot which was deflected but Kirkham was equal to it.
Brentwood got back into it three minutes from the break as Robbie Rees long ball over the top for Lomotey who attacked the box and curled his left footed shot into the far post.
Jack Gardner got at the defence and fired a shot just wide to deny ‘The Blues’ an equaliser.
Ngandu got the equaliser nine minutes after he intercepted Heybridge midfielder and curled a great shot passed Kirkham.
Brentwood went infront just after the hour mark from a corner as Rees’s back post header fell to Christian Mbulu to strike on the half volley from close range.
Rees nearly extended Brentwood’s lead as he beat three Heybridge defenders but lost his balance as he struck his shot which went wide.
Substitute Junior Ibeawuchui was put in with a great lifted ball by Rees but his snap shot was straight by Kirkham.
Rees sealed the match six minutes from time as he took the defender on and outwitted him and slotted his shot into the far post.
Brentwood nearly finished with a flourish through the two substitutes as Ashley Bankole slotted in Ibeawuchui but he shot straight at Kirkham.
