Friday Night Extra 22.8.14 Summer chill 4

We Continued our theme of chilled shows for summer. Lee was in fine form in the chatroom, providing us with lots of information to go with some of the tracks and engaging in conversations. Amongst other things, we chatted about the Alan Parsons Project, the Reading Festival, Alexi Sayle and The Young Ones, the career of Labi Siffre and Kate Bush asking fans to put their phones and other recording devices away at the up-coming concerts. We also had some interesting news stories. Footballer Robbie Savage has had his hair cut short and given his trade-mark locks to the National Football Museum. We heard about the possibility of a lollypop lady or man being employed at Abbey Road to deal with all the tourist who insist on walking across the famous zebra crossing. There was also the Chinese Police making drivers sit in front of a car with full headlines on for five minutes if they had been seen dazzling other road users. An Indian radio station had sacked all presenters and journalists aged over 35 years to keep the station with a young sound. All these stories generated conversation and comment. I chose a track to go with each story. If you were not listening, see if you can work it out.
Tonight’s playlist.
Miles Davis – Summertime
Alan Parsons Project – Old and Wise – with vocals by Colin Blunstone
Dolly Parton _ Try
Adele – Rolling in the deep
Gabrielle – Out of reach – requested by Michael
Amy Winehouse – Back to black
Lady Antebellum – Golden
Housemartins – happy Hour – requested by Patrick
Fairport Convention – Who knows where the time goes – requested by Phyl and also dedicated to John
Four Tops – Loco in Acapulco – Requested by Susan and Ian from Reading, who decided to stay in and listen to the show rather than go to the Reading Festival. Good choice.
Beatles – Strawberry Fields for ever
Police – Can’t stand loosing you – for Lee who saw them play live at the Reading Festival
Cliff Richard and the Shadows – The young ones
Labi Siffre – Something inside so strong
Alison Krauss & Union Station – Lay your burden down
Michael Buble – Everything – for Rene
Ash – Shining light
Gary Barlow – 6th Avenue
Pharrel Williams – Happy – who is still buying this track?
Kate Bush – The man with the child in his eyes
Neil Young – Southern man – never heard before by Brad, who loved it.
Albatross – Fleetwood Mac.

Join me next week, for the very originally named, Summer Chill 5.
I’m just off to put on the central heating – really!
