Hunts Kart Racing Club Rounds 6 & 7

This weekend (6-8 June) was a double header for the Hunts Kart Racing Club in Kimbolton. This was rounds 6 & 7 of the Championship and the 2 rounds together comprised the East Anglian Trophy meeting which attracts the top drivers from around the country for this one off event.

44 LJ E Ang on grid

Practice was on Friday and Lochlan was fast all day and the quickest in some sessions.

Saturday Round 6 started very wet. Bearman started 7th and was up to 3rd when he put all wheel of the circuit and span off into the tyres. This brought out a Battenberg flag where the karts have to drive round in line slowly while the tyre barrier was repaired. Bearman had survived the impact and when the race got underway fought his way back up to 7th.

Heat 2 heat was 9th on the grid and was punted out on the first corner and had to re-start last but drove well to finish 11th.

Heat 3 saw him start 17th and produce a stunning drive to finish 3rd. These results put him 4th on the Grid for the final.

At the start Bearman dropped to 6th. This was an excellent race with the first 2 karts pulling away and Bearman embroiled in a 4 way battle for 3rd. This group changed paces many times before eventually crossing the line nose to tail with Bearman in 4th. The 1st placed man was then penalised for jumping the start and this promoted everyone 1 place to give Bearman 3rd.

Round 7 on Sunday was run in hot sunny conditions. Bearman started 5th in heat 1 and drove brilliantly to lead the field and made a fantastic move around the outside of the first corner to take those in 1st and 2nd on lap 9 and from there never looked back.

Heat 2 saw him drive from 13th to 3rd with fastest lap.

Heat 3 15th to 8th again with fastest lap.

This put him on Pole for the final. He led the first lap but was overtaken by Tyler Sullivan into the last corner which also allowed Rory Hudson through. These 3 circulated together for some time before Bearman moved past Hudson as Sullivan was starting to move away. By this time Jonathan Hoggard had caught and passed Hudson and got through whilst Bearman was looking for a way past Sullivan. The top 3 pulled away but the positions never changed and at the line it was Sullivan, Hoggard and Bearman.

These results meant that Bearman finished 3rd overall in the East Anglian Trophy Meeting and has continued his battle back up the championship table.

Bearman said “it’s been a good weekend, although I am a little disappointed not to have won on Sunday when I thought I was in the best position to do so. I’m really pleased to have made it onto the podium and to represent Clic Sargent the children’s cancer charity I have been raising money for. June is supposed to be the end date for my fundraising but I hope to continue with it as it is such a great charity”.

“I’d like to thank Grice Racing engines for supplying me with a top engine and Brentwood’s CooperMotorsport for getting the set up right. Although we are a tiny team it feels great to have all this support – and from dad too who does all of the mechanic work. I can finally say that I’ve got to grips with the step up to Minimax which is about 6 seconds a lap faster than the cadet class I was in before, but it’s a very different driving style”.

The next race is in 2 weeks’ time at Whilton Mill where Bearman currently leads the championship.
