80s pop/reggae legends UB40 will headline this year’s Brentwood Festival, which takes place from 18-20 July. Festival coordinator Laurie Edmonds announced the news exclusively on Phoenix FM this afternoon.
The band, who now comprise original vocalists and musicians Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, will be playing on Sunday evening. Sunday is family day – children go free and adult tickets are half price.
The festival features a variety of genres from ska to soul, rock to reggae, acoustic to amplied. Bands confirmed to date are:
Friday: Alexander O’Neal, tribute act Kool As The Gang and Glitterball.
Saturday: The Dualers, Missing Andy, Simon and Oscar (from Ocean Colour Scene), Rhonda Merrick, Mannequins, Madness tribute One Step Behind, Undercover, The Earnshaws, Looking For Liam, The Long Run, The Sea, The Victories, Electric Child House, Graham Okey, Claire Wyatt, Edd Coates, Hannah Robinson and Roisin O’Hagan.
Sunday: UB40, The Show, Dani Clay and the Moderators, Finding Albert, Mila Falls, Welcome Pariah, D’Lys, Braats, New Killer Shoes, Pink Floyd tribute Any Colour You Like, Loni Lincoln, The Popettes and Funky Voices.
There will also be 100 real ales on tap, a new and improved Food Village, and a VIP area for the first time.
The Brentwood Festival has raised over £120,000 for charity over the last few years, and will be supporting two great local charities, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, this year.
