It was my great pleasure to spend almost an hour in the company of Brian today, who kept us royally entertained with tales of his experiences with some of the biggest names in music history. That’s no exaggeration, Brian has worked with three of The Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Sex Pistols, Kate Bush, Cliff Richard, Queen, The Rolling Stones, The Carpenters, and Motown legends Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Diana Ross… The list goes on.
Brian began his working life interviewing pop groups as a journalist on the Essex Chronicle back in the 1960s. He had jobs at Music Business Weekly, Melody Maker and Disc followed before he joined A&M Records as a press officer. Then a 15-year career at EMI Records, in press, promotion, marketing, artist development and corporate communications.
From 1989 he was a consultant to Warner Music International, the international music retailers HMV and both the British Phonographic Industry and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
You can listen to possibly the easiest and most entertaining interview that I have had the pleasure of doing right here –
Brian’s new book, Banned on the Run, is a collection of songs, record covers and artists that have caused outrage and indignation leading to bans and, in some cases, even arrests.
This is a great read for anyone whether they have an interest in music history or not, written almost as a timeline with the first entry involving George Formby with “My Little Ukelele in Me Hand” right up to the present day, with the now infamous Justin Bieber. Recommended.
BANNED ON THE RUN is an ebook published by Poppublishing priced at £4.50 and is available here – BANNED ON THE RUN
Thanks Brian!
