A few mellow tracks you may not have heard of

I had food poisoning the other weekend and needing distracting from the fact that my inners wanted to be outers,  I phoned my Mum.  A somewhat naive move on my part because my Mum has a twisted sense of humour at the best of times.

“Mum I feel really sick.  Talk to me, distract me.”

“Ooooh I must tell you something funny that happened today.   There was this smell of cabbage…”

“Mum, did you hear the bit about me feeling sick?”

“Oh yes, but this is a very funny story.  You will really like it.  So there was this smell of cabbage and we had to hunt the house out to find it.  We finally located it behind the sofa and would you believe there was a decomposing bird back there?  The cat had brought it in and the head was all crunched and…..”

“I’m going now Mum.” [cue riotous laughter from down the phone]

Evil mother.   Evil, evil mother.

But she knows me better than I know myself.  I stopped whinging and started sorting myself out.  For me that always includes music.  I pulled out loads and loads of really mellow tracks and totally chilled myself out.

I found out later I wasn’t alone that week.  Plenty of you were having a weird or tough week and generally felt in need of a little pick me up.  My show then on 29/09/13 was all about taking the bounces and indulging in our need to kick back and relax every now and again.

The mellow numbers I played on my show were:

1.  I don’t want to talk about it – Everything But The Girl
2.  Pictures – Benjamin Francis Leftwich
3.  All my days – Alexi Murdoch
4.  Old pine – Ben Howard
5.  Higher love – James Vincent McMorrow
6.  Ghosts – Laura Marling
7.  Guttersnipe –  Bhi Bhiman
8.  Reborn – Klak Tik
9.  Better together – Jack Johnson
10.  Big black car – Gregory Alan Isakov
11.  Strong – London Grammar
12.  Holes – Passenger
13. I’m Getting Ready – Michael Kiwanuka
14.  Cinematic lifestyle – Hudson Taylor
15.  Something beautiful – Alexi -Murdoch

Look them up.  You won’t be disappointed!
