On today’s Show Frances Clamp returned to the Chantry House in Billericay. Last time we were there in March last year, Frances concentrated on the connections with the Pilgrim Fathers but today she concentrated on the building itself.

In the first hour of the programme we heard about a swan being arrested in Egypt for spying! It seems that

with turmoil gripping the country authorities and citizens alike are in a heightened state of alert. Earlier this year a pigeon was captured carrying microfilm reels and in 2010 Egypt accused Israel of sending sharks to kill tourists. It also seems that last month a kestrel was detained by Turkey on suspicion of being an Israeli spy whilst Saudi Arabia arrested a vulture last year asserting that the animal was working for Mossad, the Israeli secret service. Whilst we may laugh at this – (we do, don’t we?) some people believe that the CIA is actively looking for ways to press animals into service!
