Well I might not have been joined by Frances Clamp today but she kindly left me some notes on her chosen subject regarding the history of Billericay Town Football Club.
But before all that I just had to report on the fracas which occurred recently at a Chess Tournament held in Ireland. Somehow one doesn’t equate chess as an activity likely to involve the need to call in the police to restore order, but that is exactly what happened in Cork recently. It seems that Romanian-born Gabriel Mirza, 47, who claimed that he was on his way to winning the Cork Congress Chess Open at the Metropole Hotel noticed strange goings-on by his 16 year old opponent who it seems disappeared to the toilet after each move, seemingly to check the moves with a tablet computer. Mr Mirza persuaded the tournament organisers to follow him to the toilet where he forced the door and pulled his opponent from the toilet. Somewhat surprisingly the organisers then expelled Mr Mirza from the competition for “over reacting” and then called the police. Mr Mirza was released without charge – checkmate perhaps!
As I mentioned Frances Clamp was not with me today but had left me some notes on her chosen subject – the history of Billericay Town Football Club. You can listen again to my less than perfect efforts in presenting this feature based on what Frances supplied, right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Billericay-Town-FC.mp3|titles=Billericay Town FC]
See you next week.
