Life’s a beach!

Saturday 4th May saw the official opening by the Mayor, Cllr Ann Coe, of the Brentwood Centre’s brand new outdoor Beach Arena. The Arena consists of two volleyball courts and was created using sand taken from the 2012 Olympic Courts on Horse Guards Parade.

The Beach Arena can be used for many different sports – including Beach Volleyball, Beach Soccer, Beach Tag Rugby and Beach Tennis – as well as family activities such as boules and frisbee!

To encourage people to see what the facility has to offer, Brentwood Leisure Trust is organising a free “come and try” weekend with the National Campaign ‘Go Spike’ over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. As well as the opportunity to sample many of the beach sport activities that the Arena can be used for there’ll also be a beach party and games on the Sunday evening. For more details pick up a programme from the main reception or visit the website.

I caught up with the opening for Phoenix FM, and found out more from Brentwood Leisure Trust’s Nicky and James as well as Rees Warren, a Volleyball Community Development Coach.
