Welcome to the start of another week – just 4 working days this week which is just as well seeing how cold it is. We could even have more snow on the first day of your bank holiday weekend!
But spring must surely be just round the corner and to tell us all about some fun events being organised by the J’s Hospice I was delighted to be joined by DOMINIQUE BRUNNING, fundraising manager of The J’s Hospice in Chelmsford. The first event of note is “PEDAL FOR THE J’S” which is a cycle ride starting from ADMIRAL’S PARK in CHELMSFORD on Sunday 28th April. A choice of 3 routes is available – 15, 35 or if you are really feeling fit and keen, 50 miles. If that doesn’t tick all the boxes for you, maybe you’d like to take part in their DRAGON BOAT CHALLENGE which will be held over a 200m course on Sunday 16th June starting from Backnang Square, Chelmsford on the River Chelmer. Crews should be of 10 to 12 people. The £400 entry fee includes Dragon boats and at least 3 races per crew. There is also a car show in July and an opportunity to take part in a treck up Ben Nevis at the end of September. Full details of all planned events and how you can get involved can be found on their website at https://www.thejshospice.org.uk/. You can also e-mail the hospice at info@thejshospice.org.uk or call them on 01245 475474.
The J’s Hospice provides hospice care in the home for young adults throughout Essex so it really is a very worthwhile cause. You can listen again to my chat with Dominique right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Js-Hospice.mp3|titles=J’s Hospice]
Just time for one oddball story today which concerned a survey carried out amongst 11-16-year olds. Seemingly no less than a third said they loved learning history at school. A pity then that the knowledge that at least some of them have imparted left a lot to be desired according to the survey which showed that at least some of those questioned believed that Delia Smith and Jerry Hall were among the 6 wives of Henry VIII. Furthermore some thought that the Emirates Stadium had been built before Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral. In addition TV presenter Nick Knowles was credited for building The Pyramids whilst William Shakespeare was named as the Chairman of the BBC. It seems that some detention and “lines” might be in order!
See you again tomorrow afternoon with our own resident historian, Frances Clamp, who certainly know her stuff.
All the best,
Scott
