Great Wakering Rovers 5-2  Halsted Town

Harlow Town  0-5  Brentwood Town

Port Vale  1-1  Dagenham & Redbridge

Southend United 0-1  Burton Albion

—————

FULL TIME: And what a suprisingly good, open and entertaining 90 minutes it has been.  The score is rough justice on Halsted Town, who were well in this right up until the past few minutes.  Credit to Rovers, though, they really upped their standards in the second half.  A bit of the Trenks hair dryer treatment did their stuff.

Elsewhere, a great win for Brentwood Town and a very good draw for Dagenham.  With Basildon United also beating Stansted 3-1, ooh, it’s been a good night!

Next up is FA Cup day this Saturday.  A real day of romance as Brentwood Town go to South Park, where hopefully they will have no woes to leave behind.  Until then, enjoy the week, and your football.

—————

9.30pm – Ooh, these wooden seats play havoc with the base of your spine.  Been well worth it, though, to summarise a very entertaining game, and to let you know that Brentwood Town are now 3 up.  Oh yes!

9.25pm – GOALS! ….. GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 5,  Halsted Town 2 Could that be the killer.  A fine JAY NASH run and shot from the edge of the area, and then whilst writing this, I heard a roar, and they were walking back to the centre circle!

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/6-Rovers-5-2-Halsted.mp3|titles=6 – Rovers 5-2 Halsted]

Liquid football!

9.20pm – Canvey are now 1-1 at Wroxham.  There will be extra time if it’s level at 90 minutes there, unlike here.  And Basildon United go 3-1 up.  Huzzah!

9.15pm – It’s stopped raining as well.  Just the biting wind left, but I’ll soon run out of it.  In the FA Trophy, Grays have been pegged back a goal, leading just 2-1 now.  In that lesser compeition, Man U are leading Inbetweencluj 2-1.

9.10pm – GOALS! ….. GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 3,  HALSTED TOWN 2 Good grief, this is turning into a minor classic!  Rovers seem to have made the game safe with a Luca Franklin penalty, but Halsted score more or less from their kick–off.  And Brentwood Town double their lead too.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/5-Rovers-3-2-Halsted.mp3|titles=5 – Rovers 3-2 Halsted]

It’s all happening!

9.05pm – People can be so stupid.  There’s been a series of reckless challenges from both sides, and lots of handbags.  The ref rightly books players from both teams.  And what does the bloke in front of me say?  It’s all the ref’s fault for giving silly decisions.  What a cretin.

Elsewhere, Man U have taken the lead, and in League Two still goalless in the Southend and Dagenham games.

9.00pm – GOAL! ….. GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 2,  Halsted Town 1 Blimey.  High cross on the right, and LEWIS SPARROW volleys home at the far post.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/4-Rovers-2-1-Halsted.mp3|titles=4 – Rovers 2-1 Halsted]

Game of two halves.  Of 45 minutes each, too.

8.50pm – GOAL! ….. GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 1,  Halsted Town 1 I’m guessing Rovers had a bit of the hair dryer treatment.  They’ve come out blazing, forced a corner, and played in the Halsted half until their keeper Matt Walker saved a shot.  It went straight to sub LUCA FRANKLIN, though, and he rammed it home from 8 yards.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/3-Rovers-1-1-Halsted.mp3|titles=3 – Rovers 1-1 Halsted]

Game on!

8.47pm – KICK OFF! Again.  And in some FA Trophy replays, Canvey are winning 1-0 at Wroxham, and Grays Athletic are 2 up at Ashford Town.  The Middlesex one.  If Middlesex esists.

—————

8.32pm – HALF TIME: And a richly deserved lead for the Eastern Counties underdogs.  It’s a nice town, too, even if their own ground is at the back of an industrial estate and a nightmare to get to, so I’m pleased for them.  I like it there.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/2-Tuesday-Night-Half-Time-Summary.mp3|titles=2- Tuesday Night Half Time Summary]

Elsehwere, Basildon United have taken a 2-1 lead against Stansted, and Brentwood Town have stolen a lead at Harlow, so I’m off for a Bovril and a little rejoice.  Laters.

—————

8.30pm – Confirmation that DAN SAKAL was the man, in the 43rd minute.  He scored as well.

8.27pm – GOAL! ….. Great Wakering Rovers 0,  HALSTED TOWN 1 And on the balance of play deserved, a high cross in from the left, a header at the far post, and there you have it, Town in front.  No conformation of the scorer yet.  Other than he played for the team in black and white halves.

8.25pm – Been told faithfully that at Barrows Farm it’s 0-0 between Harlow Town and Brentwood Town after 35 minutes.  Man U have equalised, so obviously like a bit of Cluj now (guffaw) and Chelsea have taken the lead against a type of Scandinavian cheese.

8.20pm – Jolly good fun where my lad is at, Roots Hall.  Southend United are down to 10 men, Spicer the man heading for an early bath.  As is the ref himself, who goes off injured.  No chortling at the back there.  Snigger.  Rovers are coming back into it here, though.  Forced a corner on the right and from that there was a frantic scramble before it was cleared.

8.15pm – Man U obviously don’t like a bit of Cluj, as they’ve fallen behind.  No bias.  Chortle.  Basildon United have now equalised against Stansted.  No bias.  Hurrah!  In front of me, it’s definitely the Eastern Counties visitors who are having the better of it.  Louis Godwin Green was forced to palm a shot over the bar a few minutes ago.

8.10pm – Halsted Town threaten the Nobby’s End goal (which is not a euphemism) again.  A swerving free kick on the left beats everyone, included the far post though, and goes about two feet wide.  The natives aren’t exactly restless but they’re not enjoying themselves either,

8.05pm – I see that Manchester United are playing Cluj.  It must be the first time they’ve played against a word invented by The Inbetweeners.  Closer to home, Stansted have taken the lead at Basildon United in another ESC match.  Bah.  Meanwhile, here at Burroughs Park, Halsted break quickly again, and it’s only the lino’s flag up that saves a golden chance being created.

8.00pm – Ooh, livened up a bit here now.  First of all, Rovers break on the left, a cross goes in, and Jay Nash’s header is well saved.  Halsted then counter attack, and Ellis Carter seems a certain scorer, chipping the host keeper, only for Louis Godwin Green to run back and catch it just before it bounces over the line.  No news elsewhere yet though.

7.55pm – Really not too much going on here.  Lots of shouting and swearing.  Both sides have had one long shot that went comfortably wide.  One Halsted free kick caused a momentary panic but that’s it.  Elsewhere, blimey, Celtic winning away in Moscow.  Is it 1st April?

7.45pm – Kick Off!  Oh yes!

—————

7.43pm – The teams come out to a small, soggy crowd in windy, rainy conditions.  Rovers in green and white stripes, Halsted in black and white halves.  Ooh, the glamour.

7.40pm – As for tonight’s fare in front of me, the Essex Senior Cup is a straight knockout, decided on the night.  If it’s level after 90 minutes, it goes to penalties, with no extra time.  Great Wakering Rovers are currently near the top of  the Essex Senior League after an unexpectedly tough start.  Halsted Town, however, are floundering in the Eastern Counties League, First Division.  It could turn out to be a classic but I have my doubts.

7.30pm – Elsewhere, the draw was made for the next round of the FA Trophy.  It’s thrown up a couple of good ‘uns.  Brentwood Town have been rewarded for their fine win at Walton & Hersham with a winnable home tie against Ryman Premier outfit Lewes.  And, in perhaps the tie of the round, it’s going to be East Thurrock United v Thurrock at Rookery Hill.  That’s a cracker!

7.20pm – By the way, apologies for the lack of live coverage from Billericay Town‘s game at Boreham Wood last night.  In short, despite being informed I’d be travelling to Meadow Park some time ago, the host club told me just a few hours before kick off it was “company policy” (their words, not mine) not to allow radio coverage for visiting clubs.  Ah well, you’ve either got it or you haven’t.  Class.

7.10pm – A very good evening from the out of the ordinary climes of Burroughs Park, home of Great Wakering Rovers.  It’s Essex Senior Cup night and Halsted are in town.

A bit of a change of pace.  Rovers aren’t in the Phoenix FM area but they are my local side, who I have a season ticket for, despite rarely getting to a game.   Times are hard and they need every ounce of support they can muster.

Brentwood Town are also in action tonight, revisiting a Harlow Town side they swept aside in the FA Trophy a fortnight ago.  That game had the live treatment, but after taking over three hours each way getting to and from it via public transport, it’s time I simply didn’t have tonight.

Our local league 2 sides are also displaying their many talents this evening, and so you will be kept fully up to date with these games, as well as letting you know how things are going here.  Without the minute by minute summaries, this could be a fun night.  For me, leastways.

Tuesday Night Football LIVE
