Here’s how August came to a close…

Can you believe it’s September already?? Un-ruddy-believable!!!

You may remember a few weeks back we held the very first PhoenixFM Mini-lympics. It was Drive vs Breakfast, Powis vs Jelly and in case you didn’t see how it all went you can check out the videos down the PhoenixFM.com corridor here.

Since then though we’ve had a few guests in, Producer Tim has had a Birthday, we’ve had a Bank Holiday and I’ve had an idea above my station.

Firstly then, on the 23rd, the Perry family came in for a chat about their Karate School. They are starting two classes a week in the Brentwood Centre’s brand new MMA (that’s Mixed Martial Arts to those less familiar with it) Centre.

When we invited them down to the studios, we obviously knew they did Karate but we didn’t quite realise how good they were. With one 2nd Dan black belt, two 1st Dan black belts, a brown belt and a red belt between them I was not going to argue with anything they said. But on a serious note (I think it’s a B) they are a lovely family who run a very successful and very open Karate school.

Starting on Wednesday 12th, for an hour, and Sunday 16th September, for an hour and a half, Karate Club Essex is open for business!!

For ages 4 and up with children, adults and families all welcome, build your confidence, get fit and improve your self esteem. All you have to do is turn up!!

They may look cute and cuddley, but they are Karate experts!!!

With 2 black and 1 red belt between them, Rob wasn't arguing when they asked to have a go in the "Big Chair"

Also this month, we were joined by two totally amazing members of the community in form of Chris Singh and Kevin Lorkins from the Brentwood Community Football Alliance. Doing amazing work promoting grassroots football to children and adults alike having formed at the start of 2012 they have already grown a huge amount. The first of it’s kind, the Alliance is a collection of teams and clubs that have come together to promote non-competitive football to children following the proposal from the FA that children’s football should be adapted to promote development ahead of winning.

On September 8th they are hosting an Under 7’s Launch Day at Shenfield High School with more details available online at their website (link below) With experience pulled from all sides of football, between Chris and Kevin they’ve held all sorts of positions at all levels of football over the past 20 years. Please show the Alliance your support as wouldn’t we all like to see grass-roots football better developed?? And you never know, maybe one day England might stand a chance of winning an International tournament or two, it all starts with proper development!!

We’ve also paid a few of our faithful listeners a visit this month too and so if you are a fellow PhoenixFM Breakfast Show listener and would like to meet me, Rob “The Jellyman” Jelly, in person then let us know via Facebook or Twitter and I might just be popping in to see you soon!

We finally got PHIL (Phoenix Happiness Imagery Laptop) working this month. He monitors the audio output and assesses the show every hour and then generates a graph. We ran a test on it on the 31st Aug at 9:00 and here’s what it told us…

Oh and don’t forget… Monday morning we will be having our monthly listening test to see who has been paying attention, 9:44 exactly!!! (do you remember your driving test time, why are they always such random but specific times??)

Until then,
