SUNDAY REPLAY – PLAYLIST 7th AUGUST 2011

Once again I had the pleasure of “sitting in” on the Sunday Replay this week.

We enjoyed a “round trip” of music across 6 decades, starting and finishing in 1959.

First off it was Bobby Darin’s “DREAM LOVER” which was followed by Eternal’s number one smash “I WANNA BE THE ONLY ONE” from 1997 and then, what was probably, the biggest hit by Human League, “DON’T YOU WANT ME BABY”.

We couldn’t go a week without a song from Stevie Wonder and “SIGNED,SEALED, DELIVERED” was the essential offering this week. The happy sound of KC & The Sunshine Band’s “BABY GIVE IT UP” preceded the Bellamy Bros with “LET YOUR LOVE FLOW”. Winding up the first half hour of hits were The Four Seasons with their 1976 song, “OH WHAT A NIGHT”.

The Walker Bros with “NO REGRETS” were driving the next cab out of the rank, followed quickly by the sensational Squeeze track, “TEMPTED” and the Darius song “COLOURBLIND”. We then had some serious grooving with “PRAISE YOU” from Fat Boy Slim and winding up the first hour was John Cougar Mellenkamp with “THE BALLAD OF JACK & DIANE” and the Four Tops cover version of the Left Bank original, “WALK AWAY RENEE”.

We opened the second hour by coming almost as up to date as it is possible to be in an oldies shows, with Katy Perry’s hit recording from just a year ago, “CALIFORNIA GURLS”. Next up was Van Halen with “JUMP”, and “INDIANA WANTS ME” by R Dean Taylor.

Fleetwood Mac were next up with “DON’T STOP THINKING” followed by “SAY HELLO, WAVE GOODBYE” from Soft Cell and “THE POWER of LOVE” from Huey Lewis & The News.

Joe Cocker launched the final half hour with “YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR HAT ON” followed by two rock ballads, “HIGH ON YOU” from Survivor and “DON’T STOP BELIEVIN'” by Journey.

We then had a mini soul sesh from the 1960’s – “PEOPLE GOTTA BE FREE” by Dionne Warwick, “THINK” from Aretha Franklin and “HOLD ON I’M COMING” by Sam & Dave which brought us almost back to our starting point in 1959, from which year we played one side of a double A side hit from Elvis Presley – “I NEED YOUR LOVE TONIGHT” (The other side was “A FOOL SUCH AS I”).

We played out with a tad of the instrumental classic track by The Commodores, “MACHINE GUN”.

Once again I had a ball presenting this show and hope you enjoyed the music as much as me.
