EVENING ECHO SPORT:
YOUTH FOOTBALL
A YOUTHFUL Southend United reserve side came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Oxford United at Roots Hall yesterday afternoon.

RACING
BASILDON teenage bike racer Jesse Jones was back in the saddle at the weekend at the Brands Hatch motor racing circuit in Kent.  It was a solid start to the season, and left him in second in the Junior Championship.  Round two of the series is at Snetterton on the new 300 circuit this weekend.

FENCING
WICKFORD fencer Chrystall Nicoll believes this year’s European Championships will define her London 2012 credentials, claiming the competition in Sheffield will be the perfect warm-up.  The 24-year-old, currently ranked as Great Britain’s number one sabreur, is gearing up to set sail on a season she hopes will culminate in cementing her spot at London 2012,

SNOOKER
STUART Bingham says he has been told to “take a good book” along for his first round match with Peter Ebdon at the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible.  The first nine frames of the best-of-19 encounter in Sheffield will begin at 7pm on Monday, April 18. The match will conclude the following day at 7pm.   The draw also pitted Tiptree’s Ali Carter against world-number 45 Dave Harold, and reigning World Champion Neil Robertson against world 24, Judd Trump.

BOXING
DANNY Brown gave away more than half-a-stone to a tough opponent from Brighton but still recorded the second win of his burgeoning professional career in Dagenham on the weekend.  The 34-year-old from Wickford battled to a 39-37 points win over Ian Jackson at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre on Saturday.  He only turned pro recently after a car crash stalled his career a decade ago.  The southpaw hopes to take part in his first six-round bout on June 4. And that could be a re-match with Jackson at the famous York Hall venue, in Bethnal Green, east London.
