Off to Ipswich, that well-known final outpost of Essex (note to self: check this later). Norwich’s punky-catchy-shouty-sweary-angry Brownies were at the Swan, playing a free gig with London headliners Kids Love Lies and So Many Dynamos, over from Illinois.
We interviewed the band six months ago in a tent at the Offset Festival in Hainault Forest, and we’re clearly moving up in the world as we were all inside Glenda, the band’s trusty tour bus, this time.
The infectiously charming quartet of Sophie, Maxie, Stevie and Michael filled us in over what had been happening over the last six months, including line-up changes and writing and recording new stuff.
The gig itself was a great affair, with the Brownies mixing up tracks from their excellent debut album Ourknife Yourback with a few new ones, which should be finding their way onto new EP/LP releases later this year. There should also be some London gigs in the late spring or early summer too.
