SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH OLIVER ROWE - 1.12.07

Christmas started at Phoenix FM today.  This show and all others broadcast through the day supported our home town's Lighting Up Brentwood event.

Brentwood's festive lights switch on was organised by Brentwood Borough Council, so new deputy chief exec Andy Stroulger made his Phoenix FM debut to mark the occasion.

He was followed in the studio by BBC Radio 2's Janey Lee Grace, national radio presenter and natural living expert. Janey was the town's VIP guest for the lights switch on and apparently mightily impressed by its community radio station.  She came from the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show to Phoenix's Dani Tebbutt in the Afternoon, because by then we'd slipped past midday and I'd handed over the mike to Dani.  Janey's pictured below (middle) with Dani (right) and me (left).

Then from the studio to Lighting Up Brentwood entertainments in the High Street, including Phoenix FM's own Darren Bull and David Bishop on the main stage.  They were DJs in DJs (disc jockeys in dinner jackets) compering acts including Hutton singer Libby Holden, 15, through the afternoon.

At 5pm Brentwood's mayor joined Janey Lee Grace on stage for the switch on, fireworks and song.
