SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ALLEN FORD - 17.11.07

SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ALLEN FORD - 17.11.07 Cabbie Lance Carolan was today's Saturday Pitstop guest, talking about how dangerous taxi driving had become in the Phoenix FM area before switching to his planned 2008 fundraising efforts for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Some taxi drivers are refusing to work weekend early morning shifts because of the escalation of violence from customers towards them. Cab company owner Lance said crime usually occurs outside of the borough and their home police force's area. One of his driver's was assaulted, his cab stolen and later found burnt out in Ilford. Lance's advice to staff is not to take a fare who is excessively drunk, drugged or somehow feels otherwise unsafe. GOSH On a lighter note, Lance has started planning his 2008 fundraiser for London's Great Ormond Street Hospital. His last event was in August 2004 at the Brentwood Centre featuring around 12 Essex acts. The variety charity show netted over £2,000 for the children's hospital - a target Lance aims to beat next year. Event organisers or performers interested in getting involved in next year's repeat performance can contact Lance Carolan, himself a songwriter, on 01277 373753.
