(R)OCTOBER- a look back
Very cheesily, I dubbed October ROCKTOBER and set about doing some rock-type stuff to celebrate the name...
Rocky artists of the week were...
The Foo Fighters... actually, if you like them, then make sure to tune into my Foo Fighters top 20 show, which is on 10th November- go here to vote for your favourite foos tracks www.phoenixfm.com/top20.php
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Aerosmith
Oasis
I also thought it'd be a bit of a laugh to bring back the Music Masterclasses, which we started off in the summer. They've all got their own pages, so go check them out if you want more info...
Week 1- GrungeWeek 2- Glam RockWeek 3- PunkWeek 4- Hair Metal
Guest-wise, I spoke to Rosemary Novis of the Billericay Parents Forum; Keith Woodcock from Brentwood Town Football Club, about a charity football match they were putting on, which was a massive success; The band The Troubadours also joined us on the phone just days before they were going to be playing a massive gig in Trafalgar Square
Live music came courtesy of Mannequins, who were marvellous. Strangely, days after they were in the studio, I kept finding their flyers in random places, like behind flowerpots and under the kettle- very odd! If you missed them, I've put up the interview on the Phoenix Rising home page, so go there and check it!
Oxjam
Claire Wetherley also came in...she was organising (in conjunction with our good selves) a gig to raise money from Oxfam- And raise she did!- Nearly a thousand quid in fact! The night was a mega success, crowned by the rather fantastic Tim Ten Yen, who everyone at Phoenix Towers loves more than chocolate and kittens
Film and music reviewsI also found myself a new friend, in the form of one James Millership. He's going to be in the studio every Monday and Friday at 10am, to talk music gossip, charts and new releases on Monday and new films and gadgets on Friday. All reviews and jazz like that are being put up on the Rising page, so if you missed it, you can ch-ch-checkit out
Oh, and I waltzed off to New York for a week for my mum's birthday and left everyone in the capable hands of Bryan Powis and very marvellous it was too!
