Brentwood residents living nearest to the proposed William Hunter Way complex were in Phoenix FM’s studios today, prior to an interview with boss of the developer.
Trina Lee lives in Chestnut Grove opposite where 14 new maisonettes are planned. She raised concerns about the light on her home being reduced as a result.
Derek Bier and Coun Reg Straw, both from Park Road, also dropped in on Phoenix FM. They thought the new site’s impact on the areas in terms of congestion, size and the environment was excessive.
The trio addressed listeners while email comment came from North Road Service Avenue, another residential road bordering onto the existing William Hunter Way car park up for development.
Allan Lockhart, retail director of Stockland Halladale behind the scheme, reported on the week’s meeting with residents. Swan Paddock Residents Association, representing people living on Western Road, has persuaded Halladale to move a wall shielding them from one side of the shopping centre/cinema/car park/residential buildings.
He dismissed reducing its height – which ranges from 11.6 metres to 23 metres across the development – by putting the parking underground for reasons of ventilation and cost.
Stockland Halladale’s detailed planning application has been lodged with Brentwood Borough Council, is available for all to view, and is likely to be considered in December.
